by Diane Sukiennik Lisa Raufman, William Bendat

Summary of Chapter 1

So what have I learned from chapter 1 of our text The Career Fitness Program ExerciseYour Options:

You are never too young to plan for your future. What I mean is that it is important to grow and learn by accessing information that is available whenever possible.

I learned that discomfort is a good thing because it requires that in order to grow.

I learned that the different web sites available from the text are WWWebwise is a research web-based research activity that will enhance your understanding.

Also going to www.careerjournal.com is very informative about career choices.

But the most important thing that I have learned is that it is important to have fulfillment in  anything that you decide.

WWWebwise took me to http://www.cover-letters.com/ and to http://jobstar.org/ So when you have some free time go ahead and browse these sites.

How do you define preparation?

Preparation = short term and long-terms goals.
Choosing and Changing Career. Each of us are in some phase of career development.
Change does bring discomfort but it is necessary for growth. Sometime you may have to quit a job you are comfortable at in order to move on to the next development in your career goals.

Exercise 1.4 Consider Occupational Status

Striving for Career Satisfaction

A phrase to remember

Tips from the PROS: Today, a phrase like "that's not my job" will never be uttered by anyone who wants to keep their job!  The most valued employees are those who are flexible and do what is required regardless  of the job title or job description.
